Mega-auction rules and regulations

During a meeting in July at the BCCI Headquarters with the owners of the ten franchises, the IPL governing council announced the Mega Player Auction regulations on September 28. From their current roster, the IPL teams are allowed to keep a total of six players. Retention of the largest retention capacity ever, the Right to Match (RTM) option, can be used to do this. For the 2025 Indian Premier League, the franchises’ auction proceeds have been set at ₹120 crore, or $14 million. A match cost of ₹7.5 lakh (US$9,000) will be paid to each participating member, including the Impact Player.

Any player who joins up for the player auction and, after being selected, withdraws from the tournament before the season begins will be prohibited from playing in both the player auction and the tournament for two seasons. A capped Indian player will lose their cap if they haven’t played in the starting lineup for international cricket (Test match, ODI, or Twenty20 International) in the five calendar years before the relevant season or if they don’t have a central contract with the BCCI. The 2025–2027 cycle will see the continuation of the Impact Player Regulation.
